“The roots of education are bitter, but the fruits are sweet.” – Aristotle
In beginning learning anything, you will find yourself to be awfully terrible and unknowledgeable in regards to it. The subject will be tedious and your work will prove challenging.
But if you simply continue on, all that you know and all that you can do due to having learned your subject will be worth it.
And so, go forth into the world and learn all you can, even if it seems difficult now, education will reward you handsomely in the end.
“I’m not telling you it’s going to be easy. I’m telling you it’s going to be worth it.” – Art Williams
For most, school is not easy, between grades and friends and trying to figure out what to do with your life, school can be quite stressful.
But that doesn’t mean you should give up on it.
Think about it. Nothing in life is ever easy. But I’m not telling you it’s going to be easy. I’m telling you it’s going to be worth it.
So persevere and do your very best to make the most out of your life now, because it’ll all be worth it one day, I promise.
“Why fit in when you were born to stand out?” – Dr. Seuss
Every person is unique, kind of like snowflakes or cherry pies, no two of them are exactly alike, so why bother trying to force yourself into an imaginary box to make yourself like others?
We’re all different, that fact is inescapable, and anyway a world with no differences would be exceptionally boring. So stop worrying about fitting in when you were born to stand out.
“A diamond is just a piece of charcoal that handled stress exceptionally well.” – Unknown
School can be stressful, and going back to it can be even worse, between grades, and parents, and school drama, but you’ll get through it. If you just believe that you can, and make the most of your life now, you’ll survive. Better than that, you’ll thrive, because remember, a diamond is just a piece of charcoal that handled stress exceptionally well.
“Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it.” – Malcolm X
I do not interpret this quote to mean that one must get an education through schools to create a better future per se, but rather that those ones who are wise, who can think ahead of themselves, think of what will be and what’s best for everyone in the long term, those are the ones who will move ahead and change their futures.
And so that way, especially in our younger years, when we are easily moldable as students, we must all strive to be that one, that person who can see the bigger picture and always strives to do what’s best for both now and the future.
“If you want to test your memory, try to recall what you were worrying about one year ago today.” – E. Joseph Cossman
When you’re going through them, your problems seem like the worst in the world. They seem to be endless with no solutions, just more misery as you struggle around in circles trying to figure what to do.
But really, such problems are not so impossible. Often times, you just need a bit of perspective and they fall away magically like perfectly cooked meat from the bone.
And so, you’ve got to remember that, in the worst of times, really you’ve just got to think outside a little bit, and you’ll have your solution like that. In fact, you won’t even remember what you were so worked up for a year from now.
“The mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be kindled.” — Plutarch
Simply memorizing rather than learning is absolutely useless. After all any idiot can memorize things, regurgitating and forgetting them later, it takes a smart person to truly learn.
And so, do not just fill your mind with useless facts that you couldn’t care less about, get excited about learning, choose subjects you love and remember the mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be kindled.
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” – Dr. Seuss
Wits can get you anywhere, and if you’ve got any about you then you’ll always remember that when it seems like learning is useless, because with a bit of intelligence and perhaps some knowledge, you can get yourself you choose to be.
After all, the more that you read, the more things you will know. And the more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.
“Teachers open the door, but you must enter by yourself.” – Chinese Proverb
Nobody can make you learn, really learn. That’s completely on you to do, because your teachers can only open the door to education and try to arm you with the necessary tools to make it through, but you’ve still got to enter that door by yourself, or it’s all made useless.
So know that, and choose right, because nobody else can make you successful but you.
“If you want to make an easy job seem mighty hard, just keep putting off doing it.” – Olin Miller
Ah good ol’ procrastination, the bane of every student’s existence.
You know, somehow we always manage to procrastinate, even for the simplest of things, it’s really quite sad.
So, I like this quote. I’d keep it close to me if were you, it might just help to remind yourself of it from time time, after all, it’s true. The longer you wait, the harder it’s going to be. So kick procrastination’s ass now, with this great quote by Olin Miller always in the very front of your mind!
To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
Why bother trying to be like everyone else? What’s the point? I don’t think there is one really other than the acceptance you wish to have. But really, what good is acceptance if you have to lie every day of your life?
That’s why I think the true accomplishment isn’t acceptance from people into whatever group you’re trying to fit in to, but rather the true accomplishment is being yourself in a world that’s constantly trying to change you.
So do that, be yourself, forget about pleasing everyone else, because at the end of the day, only your opinion matters. And personally, I’d much rather be proud of myself for having the courage to be who I actually am despite what anyone else thinks. Wouldn’t you?
“Study without desire spoils the memory, and it retains nothing that it takes in.” – Leonardo Da Vinci
There’s no point doing something you don’t like. You’re never going to be good at it, simply because if you despise it so much, you’ve already closed your mind to any chance of actually learning something.
So don’t just learn because you have to, learn because you want to. Choose the subjects you love, find something to love in the subjects you don’t, and always try keep an open mind to learning something knew. Even if you don’t like it now, you just might find yourself smarter because of it.
“Wherever you go, go with all your heart.” – Confucious
After school, what’s left? What will we do with our lives? Which road will we embark on? The decision that we make, as to where we will go in life is one of the hardest one could ever make. And the struggle to choose right is something we must all face on our own.
But no matter which path we choose now, we must never forget to put our all into it. After all, we only have one life, we’ve got to make it count.
“Sing like the birds sing, not caring who hears or what they think.” – Rumi
In the quest to be accepted by others, students all over give up what they really care about in life to be desirable and/or cool. This is regarded as simply a fact of life, that everyone wants to fit in. But I say, “Screw that!”
Who cares what anyone else thinks? What does it matter? They don’t have to live with you, you do. So always do what you love, be who you want to be, and never again do something solely for the purpose of fitting in.
“It is better to be a lion for a day than a sheep all your life.” – Roman Proverb
Living your life as a sheep, as a follower of the herd, never taking what you want and simply living day-to-day without thought, that is useless.
You see it is better to be a lion for a day, be fierce and hunt for what you want, rather than follow the herd, living with no purpose like a sheep all your life.
So choose to be a lion and be a leader, chasing relentlessly after what you want
“Learning is like rowing upstream, not to advance is to drop back.” – Chinese Proverb
Learning anything can be hard, in fact it can be utterly frustrating at times, but you’ve got to keep pushing no matter how hard it gets, because in the end, learning is beyond rewarding, despite the hardship that comes with it.
So keep continuing on rowing upstream, learning as much as you can, and never let yourself be pushed back by the current, no matter what happens, in the end it’ll all be worth it, trust me.
“The best way to get something done is to begin.” – Unknown
The hardest part of anything is just getting started. That can be the most daunting part of any goal, but once you begin, it gets hard to stop again. So don’t hesitate to begin, not now, not ever, because really the best way to get something done is to begin.
“But it’s no use to go back to yesterday because I was a different person then.” – Lewis Carroll, “Alice in Wonderland”
There’s no use living in the past, you were a different person then, you made different choices and your life went accordingly. You can’t expect to go back to the time when you had perfect grades or a perfect life, or change the bad times in any way. All you can do is move on and keep going forward, because really all you have is now.
Make it count.
So, are you going back to school? Or do you know someone who is? And what are you/they excited about for the start school? What are you/they dreading? I’d love to know down in the comment section below.
